Phase 3 Step 1 Guidelines in Effect (The race is on!)

Phase 3 Step 1 Guidelines in Effect

The good news is that racing is allowed if we comply with the safety standards for both recreational boating and youth and adult sports. The other news is that the sports standards strictly limit crew size, regardless of the size of the boat. The rules say that for a sailing race such as Downeast Challenge the maximum number of people on each boat competing is 3. So for most boats that's either doing it double-handed or Triple-handed. As a destination distance race, the DEC lends itself well to being sailed short-handed, but if you're not comfortable with this wrinkle imposed by the Phase 3 guidelines, let us know and we'll refund your fee if you wish to withdraw. Updated amendments will be posted shortly, once the ground settles, but I wanted to let you know the gist of things as soon as possible. We don't know if or when the guidance may change to allow 3+ crew for racing, but we will notify everyone if that is announced.
