Weather Update #3

The small craft advisory in Boston Harbor and surrounding waters has been extended. The Boston Harbor Islands Alliance and the race personnel of Courageous Sailing have jointly decided to postpone the Boston Harbor Island Regatta to Sunday, October 11. Conditions in Boston Harbor inside Deer Island Light looked reasonable, windy with 3-foot waves, but the waves outside of Deer Island Light and along both the north and south shores of Massachusetts were 10 feet today and are expected to be close to that tomorrow morning and only slightly diminished by the afternoon. In those conditions, few, if any, boats from outside of Boston Harbor would be able to travel to the event. Likewise, the smaller boats from the Boston Sailing Center and Courageous Sailing would not be able to leave their docks. We understand that this change in date may cause some boats to be unable to compete. We’re disappointed that the weather does not allow us to safely race this weekend and that you may not be able to join us on Sunday. Looking toward next Sunday, the long-range forecast has a period of 10-knot breeze over several days, so hopefully, we’ll be able to sail both the Boston Harbor Islands Regatta and the Marblehead Chowder Cup. Even though we’re not racing, we’re still throwing a great party! We’re partnering with our new friends at Boston Harbor Distillery [12R Ericsson Street, Boston, MA 02112] for a party on the mainland from 5 to 8 pm on Sunday, October 4. They’ve got a brand new event space and we’ll be one of the first groups to have a private event there. The distillery is a really fantastic space with a great vibe, as well as some fascinating nautical history. We’ll be serving up dinner, beer, and Dark & Stormies made with the Distillery's signature New England Spirit, Lawley’s. Rumor has it the venue will be doing tastings of their other spirits as well. There is ample free parking for everyone, so bring a friend. Thank you to all sailors for participating in the 11th annual Boston Harbor Islands Regatta. While the racing date and time has changed with the weather, our gratitude for your support of the Boston Harbor Island Alliance remains. With your participation in the regatta you are helping us increase access to the Boston Harbor Islands National Park for youth and families from underserved communities and to providing free, fun and educational programs on the Islands. We hope you will join us Sunday for a party and share in celebration of the Boston Harbor Islands - plus a chance to win great raffle prizes like center ice Bruins tickets - in anticipation of a great race next weekend!

Weather Update #2

Boston Harbor Islands Regatta Competitors, Due to the high winds forecast for Saturday, the Boston Harbor Islands Alliance and the race personnel of Courageous Sailing have jointly decided to postpone the Boston Harbor Island Regatta and the post-race party to Sunday, October 4. The forecast for Sunday is for more moderate winds, although that may change. We understand that this change in date may cause some boats to be unable to compete. We’re disappointed that the weather does not allow us to safely race on Saturday and that you may not be able to join us on Sunday. Not even Hurricane Joaquin is going to stop us from throwing a great party! We’re partnering with our new friends at Boston Harbor Distillery [12R Ericsson Street, Boston, MA 02112] for a party on the mainland from 5 to 8 pm. They’ve got a brand new event space and we’ll be one of the first groups to have a private event there.
